Swindon Club Owner Plans to Inject New Lease of Life into Longs Bar

Shaun Montague and Danny Mason have been appointed as the new managers of Longs following a string of bad luck for the Old Town bar, which had its licence revoked for serving underage drinkers back in October.

After finalising a deal with the building’s owners Arkell’s, Shaun and Danny - under the operating name of Benvolio Leisure Limited - officially received the keys on Monday December 2nd. 

Scandal and drama has plagued the bar since October 18, when Swindon Borough Council made the decision to revoke its licence. Since 2010 the bar has been caught selling alcohol to underage volunteer drinkers on four separate occasions. 

In a bid to combat to the problem and ensure that it doesn't happen again, a new team of door supervisors have been recruited to check patrons IDs. 

No strangers to the Swindon club circuit; Shaun and Danny already have high hopes for the venue, with a refit pencilled in the diary for early January. 

Speaking about his latest business venture, Shaun enthused: “I'm so pleased to have been given this opportunity. Longs Bar is nothing shy of legendary. It's stoked in heritage and has an extremely loyal customer base.

So many other bars have come on gone, but Longs has stood the test of time."

Shaun, who is also the owner of Old Town hot spot SUJU, explained that his current club and Longs will remain separate entities - complementing one another's services rather than joining forces. 

According to Danny, Longs wasn't just handed to them on a plate and they had to fight off substantial interest from other parties for the bar's licence. 

He said: “Longs is an iconic venue - so naturally, lots of people wanted a slice of the pie."
