Total Guide to's Top 10 Halloween Films

Halloween is right around the corner, and while many will be painting their faces and pouring jelly-like blood across their jugulars in preparation for a spooky night out, some of us will be microwaving popcorn and getting ready for a horror film filled evening.

We’ve rounded up our top ten must watch Halloween films here…

Warning: videos may contain violent or graphic content.

1. Halloweentown – It’s a classic. A classic that takes us back to our younger days, which we’re not quite ready to let go of yet.

2. Hocus Pocus - Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy are the ultimate witchy trio in this golden oldie. Not exactly terrifying, well … Carry Bradshaw may be terrified at some of the outfits.

3. Hannibal – We’re kind of kicking up the spook level with this one. Dr Hannibal Lector is a sure way to have you covering your eyes, and developing a fear of the food served at dinner parties.

4. Sweeney Todd – Keeping the whole ‘eating people’ theme running, the demon barber of Fleet Street will have you vowing to never visit a hairdressers again. Or eat a pie for that matter.

5. Shining – Here comes Johnny! Throwing another classic into the mix, this one takes family get-a-ways to a not so enjoyable level.

6. Sleepy Hollow - Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp is a good enough reason to watch any movie. Investigating mysterious murders by a headless horseman is just the bonus.

7. Edward Scissorhands – Johnny Depp. Did we just discuss this? Combined with the genius, Tim Burton, this is a favourite of ours.

8. Dracula – It’s possibly the greatest horror story ever told. The original vampire tale, minus the sparkling skin and awkward teenage angst.

9. Saw – Do you want to play a game? We definitely don’t when it comes to these twisted films. Food for thought: someone sat there actually thinking these up.

10. The Orphan – Possibly one of the weirdest horrors we’ve ever seen. Put it this way, if you’re ever thinking of adopting a child, maybe skip this one.
