What's on This Summer with South Swindon Parish Council

Summer is in full swing, and South Swindon Parish Council has an exciting lineup of events to keep you entertained. From theatrical performances and live music to storytelling festivals and family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here’s a look at what’s coming up!

Jeeves and Wooster in ‘Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves’

An ensemble of actor-musicians at Tethered Wits are performing the famous novel by P.G. Woodhouse, Stiff Upper Lip Jeeves with beloved characters, Jeeves and Wooster! The show will take you into an adventure of Bertie Wooster, a pleasant young gentleman who tends to land in the most comical situations. Thankfully, he has his quick-witted valet, Jeeves, to save him from all sorts of trouble.

With live jazz music being played throughout the show, this event is an interesting and fun time. Book your place to see ill-fated romances, hilarious escapades and more, all set against the backdrop of a world filled with outlandish aunts, quirky friends, and a host of unforgettable characters.

Bandstand Concerts

South Swindon Parish Council is bringing free music concerts to South Swindon! Enjoy live performances every Sunday until September, with free concerts at Queen’s Park and the Blossom Circle at GWR Park. Don't miss out on these fantastic community events, here’s what’s coming up this Summer:

11th August, Town Gardens: 3pm – North Swindon Big Band. Hear a 20-piece Big Band from Swindon, offering an extensive repertoire that spans from the Swing and Dance era of the 1930s to contemporary tunes. Their performances feature classics from Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Nestico.

18th August, GWR Park: 12pm – Emma Doupé. Emma is a dynamic solo vocalist who skilfully accompanies herself on various instruments, including the autoharp. She blends sounds with live looping to craft immersive soundscapes that captivate listeners and transport them to new sound spaces.

18th August, GWR Park: 3pm – ZambaLando. Experience this Afro-Latin Funk band that performs original songs across a variety of genres, including Salsa, Merengue, Lando, Festejo, Samba, Bossa, and Funk with a touch of jazz. They offer a flexible lineup of 3 to 7 musicians, delivering both original compositions and popular covers.

25th August, Queen’s Park: 12pm – Emma Doupé.

25th August, Queen’s Park: 3pm – JG Music. You can see this incredible solo artist live in Swindon. JG Music masterfully blends acoustic and electric guitar to deliver both original songs and captivating covers of popular hits. The intimate setting of Queen's Park will make every note feel personal and every song a memory.

Story Time in the Park

Come and join South Swindon Parish Council for a delightful Story Time in the Park at the Bandstand. This enchanting event is perfect for young children and their families, offering an hour of captivating stories in a beautiful outdoor setting. In addition to the storytelling, each child will receive a craft kit to enjoy during the session, allowing them to create their own artistic masterpieces inspired by the tales they hear. Please note that spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot early to ensure your little ones get to have magical experience. This event is set to be a morning of imagination, creativity, and fun!

Forging Fantastical

Swindon’s Forging Fantastical is bringing together talented storytellers from across the UK to share tales from diverse cultures and regions, including the British Isles, Nordic countries, Inuit traditions, and more. Managed by local volunteers, Forging Fantastical offers a year-round program of nonprofit creative events, with a special focus on storytelling for adults.

The event will feature a headline performance by storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Paul Jackson. Prepare to be enchanted with his instruments such as the African Kora, American double-chambered flute, drums, mouth harps, Tibetan singing bowls, Indian Ektara, and Australian Didgeridoo.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind event in the heart of Swindon!

Badbury Park Summer Festival

Join South Swindon Parish Council at the Badbury Park Community Hub this August Bank Holiday Monday for a fun-filled day of activities! Enjoy live music, entertainment from local groups, face painting, a magic show, and a bouncy castle! They’ve got your hunger covered with delicious options from Badbury Park Pizzeria, Eastern flavours from Coconut and Spice, and sweet treats from Lizzy Bakes and Chez’s Ices. Don’t forget to explore they mini mart featuring local stallholders.
