Those visiting it since it was out of use will be in for a surprise, as it has under gone a multi thousand-pound makeover. The facility, which backs on to the old canal path was due to reopen earlier in the summer but the Covid19 restrictions delayed the completion of the refurbishment.
South Swindon Parish Council, which operates the play area and is accessed via Maxwell Street off Faringdon Road, has spent £60,000 on the project, providing new play equipment and a new rubber safety surface.
Councillor Chris Watts, Chair of the parish council formally opened the play area. He told TOTAL SWINDON “ We have invested in the play park as part of the parishes wider project. Ww wanted to make sure the area is safe and has a play value for the children of Swindon. This was one of the priority play areas we wanted to upgrade and I am really pleased with the outcome.”
Cllr Watts added that he hoped the new equipment would be put to good use.
As soon as the play area was opened local children began to enjoy the new facility. 5 year old Dasheet was the first to use the facility “I have enjoyed playing on the slides and the climbing frame” she said. Mum, Gurbreet, who lives close by said “The new park is a brilliant, everything is new and safe and all the children want to come here and use it”
The upgrade is one of a rolling program of improvements of play areas across the parish, the previous play area to have a makeover was at the GWR Park which opened in late February.
