Sean Harper founded Just for Fun Holiday Club alongside Mike Jones in 2018. The club is known for delivering exciting and engaging activities for children during school breaks.
The summer season marked a significant increase in attendance, especially among children over 11. The club continued its tradition of offering a wide array of inclusive sessions, ranging from creative arts and crafts to thrilling physical activities.
This summer’s highlights included fruit skewers and smoothie making, biscuit decorating, old-school sports day games, and hands-on experiences like JJs’ reptiles and Padel4All. Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis, squash, and badminton. Children also participated in Mini Medics to teach them basic first aid skills in a fun way, a talent show, a summer party, bird feeder crafting, water fights, Nerf battles, and even visits from the emergency services.
With all venues opening at 8:00 AM and offering flexible collection times, parents found it easier than ever to fit the club’s activities into their schedules. Importantly, Just for Fun continued to prioritise accessibility by providing dedicated support for children requiring one-on-one attention.
Seven staff members were allocated specifically to assist children who needed extra support, ensuring every child could fully participate and enjoy their day. This commitment to inclusivity is core to the club's ethos, making their activities accessible to all.
The founder of the holiday club Sean said "We are proud of our ability to offer a fun and safe environment for all children, including those needing additional support. Our dedicated team ensures that every child has the chance to enjoy the holiday club experience in a way that suits them. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact this has."
This summer, Just for Fun was also proud to be part of the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme, funded by the Department for Education. This initiative supported children from reception to year 11 who receive income-related free school meals, allowing them to access the club’s activities and enjoy nutritious meals prepared in-house. Feedback from parents and children was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the quality of the lunches and the opportunity for second helpings being a crowd favourite.
“The Talent Show emerged as one of the standout moments of the summer, with children showcasing a wide range of skills, from singing and dancing to magic tricks and more. The club’s staff were thrilled to provide feedback and encouragement, making the event a memorable celebration of creativity and confidence,” said Sean.
"It was such a joy to watch the children express themselves and build confidence during the talent show. Seeing their performances and enthusiasm really encapsulated the spirit of Just for Fun."
As Just for Fun Holiday Club looks ahead to its next seasonal programme, Sean and the team remain committed to offering even more activities, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring every child in Swindon has access to a fun-filled, supportive environment during school holidays. Their venues are Holy Cross Primary School, Grange Junior School, Goddard Park Community Primary School and Rodbourne Cheney.
The next holiday club with availability takes place in February half term. For more details and to book visit www.justforfunholidayclub.co.uk.
