REVIEW: Urban Green Cuisine's 5-Lunch Meal Plan
Making sure you eat healthily seems to get more and more difficult. Getting organized to pre-prepare your lunches to take to work always seems like a great idea, but who has the time? Luckily, we were invited to sample an Urban Green Cuisine week long lunch meal plan.
Learning I’d be sampling delicious meals from Urban Green Cuisine made me very excited. I’d long been an admirer of their Instagram page, where they show off their meals, which are as much a feast for the eyes as they are for your tummy.
The whole process starts off with a consultation with Lorna, the lady behind Urban Green Cuisine, discussing any food intolerances or preferences you have. As I told Lorna I was vegan, she ensured all the dishes were free from animal products. Urban Green Cuisine aren’t a vegan-only company, but it’s great to see that they cater for all diets.
After that, I was sent an email ahead of the week letting me know just what I would be treated to for my meal plan. In the email I was informed I’d be receiving the following:
- Quinoa and Roasted Stuffed Peppers x1
- Sweetcorn Chowder x2
- Vegetarian Balls with a roasted Tomato Garlic Sauce and Lentil Pasta x1
- Black-bean, Avocado and Tofu Rice Bowl with a Beetroot Hummus x1
Lorna hand-delivered my lunches to the Total offices, with an extra treat of some raw chocolate brownies for me and the rest of the team which went down an absolute storm! We had a quick chat and Lorna recommended I eat the Rice Bowl first, as the fresh avocado tastes better the fresher it is.
I was looking forward to lunch time all day on Monday. I did what I was told and had the rice bowl first which was absolutely delicious! The portion size certainly kept me going for the day and the side-salad of mixed chopped tomatoes and basil kept the whole meal fresh. I would never have thought of adding a serving of hummus to a rice bowl, but given Lorna’s culinary past, it all worked beautifully.
Tuesday I decided to split up my two servings of sweetcorn chowder, which was a deliciously-warming dish which was very welcome in the snowy weather we’ve been experiencing. There were heating instructions for every meal that I received in the handy Dish Instructions letter that I received in Monday’s delivery.
Wednesday was the turn of my veggie “meatballs” with a tangy tomato sauce. Again, the serving was great for a hearty lunch. I’ve had veggie-balls before and they’ve been a little dry, but not these ones! They were juicy and tender and definitely filled a hole.
Thursday’s stuffed peppers were packed with flavour and the quinoa mixed stuffing included lots of flavour, protein and all the goodness I needed to see me through the rest of the day. My colleagues were starting to get a little jealous of the gorgeous smells I’d be wafting through the office on my walk back from the kitchen. “What’ve you got today Matt?” was a common question, and I loved showing off my dishes, even though I didn’t cook them!
Friday was the worst day to come to the office in terms of the weather but I made it in and I’d be lying if I said I wanted to brave the snow to get my lunch! It was a repeat of the sweetcorn chowder which was still very tasty, despite being in the fridge since Monday.
All in all, the 5-Day Meal Plan from Urban Green Cuisine would have been £35, which works out to £7 a day, which you could easily spend on a meal deal with a few extra bits and bobs. If you take in to account all the time you save, the variety of new dishes you’re trying and the recipe cards that are included in the pack you get at the beginning of the week, it’s a small price to pay for eating healthily.
I’d thoroughly recommend having a chat with Lorna about which options suit you. There are also options for breakfast, dinner and snacks in between.
