TGt Meets... Bradon Athey
We've been chatting to plumbing apprentices at Swindon College about how the scheme is great for them.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
University can’t guarantee you a job at the end of your course.
How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?
A plumbing company chose me and therefore took me on.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
You earn a wage.
What are you doing to develop within your role and company?
Complete my Apprenticeship and learn as much as I can.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
I completed a skydive!
How do you spend your free time?
Seeing my friends and socialising at our local pub.
What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?
The exams and theory.
What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person? (Grown confidence, developed specific skills, made new friends etc)
I am on a proper wage so I have become financially independent.
What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship?
It depends what you want to do, university is good for some people but an Apprenticeship is right for others.
What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?
I have the potential to earn better a better wage.
