TGt Meets... Harry Platt
We've been chatting to plumbing apprentices at Swindon College about how the scheme is great for them.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
I am not particularly academic and I prefer hands-on learning, plus I get to earn money.
How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?
I’m not really sure, I have always wanted to do plumbing.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
Earning money whilst learning and getting the qualification.
What are you doing to develop within your role and company?
Acting as an example to other young people to show them that anybody can do it.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
Passing my level 2 qualification.
How do you spend your free time?
I play a lot of football and I like seeing my friends.
What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person?
I have grown a lot of confidence and developed skills I didn’t think I would be able to learn. I have made so many new friends – it’s been a really great experience.
What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship?
Do an Apprenticeship – you won’t regret it.
What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?
The confidence to start my own business.
