TGt Meets... Lewis Mackay
We've been chatting to plumbing apprentices at Swindon College about how the scheme is great for them.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
I wanted to be a plumber/gas fitter and doing this course was the best way to get to that goal.
How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?
I read a lot about the different ones and made my decision based on that.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
Getting paid to get a good qualification.
What are you doing to develop within your role and company?
Work more independently and continue to more and more on my own.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
I have installed a whole heating system on my own, which is a massive task.
How do you spend your free time?
I love going to the gym or getting out with my friends.
What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?
It’s hard work and long days, but rewarding.
What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person? (Grown confidence, developed specific skills, made new friends etc)
I am definitely more confident in myself and the work that I do.
What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?
A huge amount of knowledge about the plumbing industry and the qualification.
