TGt Meets... Toby Wells
We've been chatting to carpentry apprentices at Swindon College about how the scheme is great for them.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
I didn’t want to university as I would finish my degree with a lot of debt and the costs of living away were too much.
How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?
I wanted to do something I enjoyed and Carpentry seemed like a good choice.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
I can work and earn money whilst gaining a qualification.
What are you doing to develop within your role and company?
Complete more tasks and achieve more.
How do you spend your free time?
Socialising with friends mostly.
What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?
Having to provide evidence as part of completing the NVQ.
What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person?
It feels like I am achieving something, it makes me feel really proud.
What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship?
Doing the apprenticeship means the best of both worlds, learning and making money.
What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?
A lot of new experiences in the workplace.
