10 Reasons Little Girls Love My Little Pony

My Little Pony, marketed primarily towards young girls started as a line of plastic pony toys produced in 1983 has also inspired a television series and feature length film.

The ponies now even have their own story-telling app, Facebook page and a fandom that has exploded across the Internet.

Although the show was initially aimed at girls aged 2 to 11, now it is not just that demographic who love the ponies. Teenage boys, adult women and even grown men, also known as Bronies, are fans of the colourful creatures. With many adults explaining that their love of the show came about as it helped them to get through tough times.

Here are 10 reasons why Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle and Applejack have cantered into the hearts of little girls, some of which might explain why they are loved by an even wider audience:

  1. First of all they are ponies and most little girls dream of owning her own horse! Therefore, when you can’t have a real one then why not the next best thing. The special thing about My Little Pony is that girls can collect the plastic ponies and play with them alongside the episodes.
  2. Not only are they ponies, but they embody everything feminine, with colourful pastel bodies and manes, plus a pretty and unique symbol on their flanks.
  3. As a result clothes and accessories adorned with the animal are girly pink, bright and fun, just like the ones here!
  4. The ponies live in an enchanted and colourful world, which is a happy place full of childish innocence and ideal when you want to escape everyday life.
  5. An important part of My Little Pony is friendship. The animals are gentle, friendly and encouraging, which brings people closer together. The friendship that the ponies have is reflected in the friendship that have formed from those who share a similar interest in the franchise.
  6. The ponies support each other, reflecting community support, which always ends well. They are inspirational, always helping people out (or other ponies out) and explore the world together. They give direction for the viewer to create these things in their own lives.
  7. Exciting plots, including ‘whodunnits’, time travel, quests and conflicts. The show offers plot lines that ensure the viewer becomes invested in the characters and wants the situations to work out well for them. They have hopes and dreamers that the viewer can care about which result in them worrying when things don’t work out well for the characters and joy when it does.
  8. Great animation with witty and funny dialogue and accompanying catchy music.
  9. Engaging and believable characters who have talents and flaws, hopes and fears, that develop over time.
  10. Due to the show transcending age and gender, it is something that young girls can watch with siblings or parents, providing important quality family time. The show includes adult references, including those to Alice in Wonderland and Gone with the Wind, plus subtle jokes to keep adults interested and entertained.

My Little Pony is a brand synonymous with happiness, it encourages children (and adults) to aspire for more and to achieve their dreams. No matter your age or gender you can enjoy My Little Pony and also embrace some of the fictional characters’ values in your everyday life.
