Let's Talk
A mum's view on how to cope week 11
I’ve decided baking with kids is definitely more trouble than it’s worth, I mean it sounds all fluffy and lovely and you can teach them maths etc at the same time right? Actually it’s just completely stressful and all you do is spend time removing eggshell from the mixture, wiping up dropped eggs, getting everything covered in flour, plus more ingredients on the worktop than actually in the bowl. That and any remotely immediately edible ingredients get snaffled as you go along.
Also, whatever it is you’re making is definitely not anything you really want to eat once the ‘decoration’ stage has begun.
Unfortunately in our open plan living area you can’t escape to cook so the ‘helpers’ invariably always get involved, especially when there is an eye watering amount of bad stuff like butter, chocolate and marshmallows involved.
The husband found out how much fun it was during pizza making (lucky for him it didn’t involve eggs) there was plenty of fighting over who poured what, who got the biggest ball of dough etc. Once they were finally done and the drama was over he realised during cooking that he had forgotten the yeast. Flatbread pizzas still went down well to be fair, plus the one and only yeast sachet that we have been able to get hold of since lockdown lived on to fight another day.
The two year old has mastered his bike balance finally, spurred on by his older brother getting his big boy bike early. He is super excited about it and gives himself little motivational chats as we go out and about. Things like ‘I got dis’ and you can do dis’ are periodically shouted as he trundles along. It certainly amuses the passers by who also get both boys shouting hello to them constantly. I think they are just happy to see anyone who isn’t us.
The two year old has also taken his love of stones a step further by instating one to get involved in his Paw Patrol games as Mayor Goodway. I have no idea how this came about but who am I to argue and it keeps him quiet for five minutes.
I might start a 101 uses for stones blog next.
