This artistic addition is a significant facet of the ongoing project with the purpose of enhancing the area and its underpasses. Primarily, the £3 million improvement initiative will focus on London Street and Sheppard Street, with changes such as expanding the pavement in front of the Carriage Works.
Painted by Luke Gray, the mural’s reference images and design guidance were in collaboration with the Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal Trust. The result is a depiction that celebrates Swindon's canal heritage.
The area will continue to be updated with the planting of numerous trees and the space surrounding the Bristol Street tunnel is set to have new railings and greenery added. A pocket park will also be created at Sheppard Street.
With these improvements, the area has gained aesthetic appeal and became a more inviting, vibrant space for residents and visitors alike to enjoy and appreciate.
