WebsiteThe stunning memory wall, which is located in the Brunel Arcade in Swindon’s Town Centre, will be beautifully decorated with hundreds of poppies. Goddard Park Primary School have ahand-made paper poppies which will appear alongside hundreds more crocheted and knitted by Swindon’s talented Stitch and Bitch group. Alongside the collection of poppies will be war poems, and below the Wall of Remembrance is a striking mural, illustrating a field of poppies, which has been painted by Nicky Tritton of Swindon Artists’ Forum.
Jane Stewart, Marketing Manager at The Brunel said: “This project came about as part of the Swindon in the Great War plans – a programme of community events and activities to ensure that the Town’s part in the war is properly commemorated. The mural looks fantastic and shoppers have been stopping to take a closer look. We are now in the process of putting up all the poppies and expect the whole area to look stunning when it’s finished. We hope people will come along at have a look at this community work of art, and add their own messages to the Wall of Remembrance too”.
On Saturday 9th August, there will be free poppy making workshops, where shoppers will be able to make their own poppies to add to the Wall of Remembrance. The “make and do” craft sessions are free and will be suitable for both adults and children. They will take place from 11am – 1pm and 2pm until 4pm, and will be situated near to the Wall of Remembrance on the first floor of The Brunel Arcade, adjacent to Play Zone.
