Care home unveils gift from Wiltshire inventor Tom Lawton.
Wiltshire based inventor, Tom Lawton and founder of Uplifting Products, attended an emotional virtual event at Hyperion House Care Home in Fairford – as they unveiled his artwork Blueprint of a Rainbow.
Tom decided before Christmas to donate one of his limited edition rainbow prints to brighten up key worker spaces in or close to his community. Several venues were nominated by members of the public and one was Hyperion House Care Home.
Tom said: “I believe passionately in giving back and I wanted to support key workers. I put out a request for nominations and Hyperion House Care Home stood out for me. I felt that it would bring joy to those working hard to keep us safe and the residents.
“Sometimes a rainbow, when viewed from the heavens, can be seen as a complete circle, known as a ‘glory’. Admittedly, this is easier to see from either an aeroplane window or a mountain top but to save you the hassle I’ve drawn this illustration to bring a little gloriousness to any indoor space.”
Still under lockdown restrictions, the unveiling ceremony was held virtually with inventor Tom Lawton, Hyperion House owner, Tanya Shukla, Chris Roberts (who had nominated the care home for the prize print) all attending via Zoom. The unique Rainbow print is hung in the residents’ dining room and was unveiled by two residents Martin Riley and twice Mayor of Fairford, Trevor Hing MBE. The ceremony was followed by afternoon tea for the residents.
Trevor Hing MBE said:
“On behalf of everyone at Hyperion House, I would like to thank Tom for choosing us to receive this magnificent poster. It’s taking pride of place in our dining room. It really is tremendous and brightens up our day to look at it.
“I would also like to thank the staff of Hyperion for their devoted care. They really do care and this beautiful poster is well deserved by all the staff. Every time I look at the Rainbow, there will be with a tear in my eye as it makes me realise how good life is.”
Tom Lawton is the co-founder of Uplifting Products and is already known for his Uplift 2.0 solar-powered spiral sculpture which has sold several 1000s and also the Million Mile Light. He was the presenter of a Channel 4 series Tom’s Fantastic Floating Boat some years ago.
His next creation Wonder has already made its debut and he’s launched a crowdfunding campaign to create a permanent installation enshrined in the chapel at Malmesbury Abbey
