CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN: A MUM'S VIEW ON HOW TO COPE Week 2
I’ve made a menu and a timetable for the five year old to stop all of us from going mad. This type of thing is so against anything I’ve ever done before as I’m just not that type of Mum but I’ve found myself having to and I think it’s helped a bit. He is made up with daily Lego club.
The two year old has now started talking in sentences which is hilarious but now we have a running commentary on the day from 7am to 7pm. My personal favourite was when he discovered I had knees and spent a whole day saying ‘Mummy! You got kneesies’ and telling everyone about them at any given opportunity.
We have food deliveries coming tomorrow and I could not be more excited, I’ve never seen our cupboards so bare. I had to sacrifice an Easter egg and compile all the chocolate in the house together to make rocky road so we would have more days worth of puddings. It’s madness. I never knew that feeding six of us and meal planning would be so exhausting! My favourite delivery this week though was from Arkells, we now have enough wine to keep us going for a while!
There have been a ton of small people demands, strops and emotions flying about which are interesting to manage. It’s such a rollercoaster. We have some lovely bits too it’s just very up and down.
We made robots out of boxes and also did Noel Fielding's art club at the weekend which was cool. Definitely a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon if you like a bit of creating.
We also did Joe Wicks' fancy dress Friday and wore our stuff all day, the husband got some very interesting looks as we did our walk with him wearing a vampire princess tutu dress and a leopard print coat.
I’m sure like most people I can’t stop watching Tiger King, it’s absolutely the best distraction from the madness. All the memes keep me going and have given me some serious belly laughs and of course ‘Carole f*****g Baskin’.
We’re spending lots of time at the weekends on video calls to our buddies still. It’s so good to have something to look forward to and a reason to dress up.
We’ve bought alllll the board games and game apps too, we did a quiz with my parents one night which they loved.
There have been lots of people wondering if it’s right to do the Easter holidays or not. I’ve chosen not to as we just have this new timetable sorted and I didn’t want yet another disruption or to confuse things. So I’ve decided to have the long weekend off, bank the rest and then announce half term whenever I feel the time is right/I am done with home schooling.
I think you know your kids the best so doing whatever works for them and your family right now is right. Even if I did get a ‘you’re not my teacher’ the other day. My response was I am for now and I also have the ability to send you to bed early. I’ve not heard it since...
