Healthy Living: Are Filler Treatments Safe?
Filler treatment has grown more popular over the last few years. Click here to find out how safe fillers are and why they are becoming more common.
The results are in for the filler market in 2023, and they’re largely positive – at least, they are if you’re a professional in the industry.
Over the last twelve months, more and more people have been opting for filler injections to rejuvenate their body and give their features a new, replenished look. It’s even gone so far the procedure has been given its own nickname: ‘tweakment’.
For those unaware, a ‘tweakment’ can take the form of lip fillers, facial fillers, and other procedures growing in popularity, such as penis enlargement using PRP.
While the treatments are all non-invasive, however, there are people who still question their usage in this modern, fitness-orientated age. With the global filler market projected to grow to $9 billion over the next six years, it’s never been a more perfect time to have the conversation. So are filler treatments safe? Or are they not really ‘treatments’ at all?
The Thing About Fillers
The first thing to consider when asking this question is what fillers really are. In 2023, there are several different types of fillers available ranging from hyaluronic acid, to Radiesse, polymethylmethacrylate, and more.
The majority of the time, clinicians will use hyaluronic acid, sometimes mixed with other materials to reach the desired effect.
For penile fillers, for instance, a common method is to combine PRP with hyaluronic acid, using both to increase the size, increase the blood flow, and allow sufferers of ED to maintain an erection for longer. Both of these materials are natural and very safe to use.
Of course, every procedure will have possible side-effects. The most common include swelling and bruising, but more disappear after just a few days of the treatment being completed. Other side-effects include infection, which leads to a lumpy appearance under the skin, which could need medicine or surgery to treat. While most procedures are painless, patients have also reported feeling pain, tenderness, itching, and in rare cases, allergic reactions.
Are Fillers Really Safe?
While there are stories of side-effects, however, there are also success stories. Neither counteract the other. It would be wrong to say that fillers are dangerous because of the potential side-effects, but it would also be wrong to suggest that fillers are completely safe.
The answer, in both cases, is where the procedure is taking place. The majority of fillers that have gone wrong have been caused by black market fillers – fillers that have either been self-applied or done by non-health professionals.
To make the procedure as safe and successful as possible, it is crucial that it is carried out by reputable, professional clinicians who know all there is about the treatment, and what the patient can expect after undergoing it.
Those who are thinking about having fillers should also be able to visit these clinicians and talk through all the possible side-effects, helping them to not only understand the procedure, but be confident in the people who will be applying the injection. That is the main difference when discussing whether fillers are safe or not going into 2024.
