How to make the most of a heatwave in Swindon
Whether you love or loathe it, every summer we always have at least a few blisteringly hot days where we have to endure temperatures in the 30s. Here in the UK, it only comes around every now and again so we’re all about grabbing it with both hands and running with it!
Let us help you out with a few ideas of how to make the most of a heatwave when it comes to Swindon.
Visit an Open Air Pool
If all you can think about in the hot weather is keeping cool, then an open-air swimming pool is a good place to start! Although they are usually heated to a warm temperature, it’s still a brilliant way to get yourself away from that blistering sun and enjoy a splash around with friends or little ones. Luckily here in Swindon, we’re surrounded by open air pools!

Take a trip to Cotswold Water Park
Cotswold Water Park is one of our go-to places on a hot day. Not only can you go swimming in the natural lake (trust us – it’s FREEZING so will definitely cool you down when it’s too hot!) but if you love to be active, you can enjoy plenty of South Cerney water sport activities down on the lake as well as the inflatable Total Wipeout experience, Aquaventure!

Picnic at Lydiard Park
You can’t beat a good picnic on a warm day. Bring your picnic basket and blanket down to the 260-acre Lydiard Park, situated in West Swindon. There are plenty of picnic spots located around the lake and lots of shady spots under the trees if you want to stay out the sun. There is also a huge playground to keep kids entertained and a café where you can grab an ice-cream!

But not only that, you can pick your own seasonal soft fruits and vegetables including raspberries, gooseberries, sweet blackcurrants, asparagus, potatoes, courgettes, runner beans, sweetcorn, spinach, and beetroot!
