HOW TO PREPARE FOR VE DAY

HOW TO PREPARE FOR VE DAY

The bank holiday weekend of May 8th - 10th, is the weekend we celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day! This special day marks the end of the war in Europe and as a country we love to celebrate the occasion. To help you prepare for the day, we've come up with ways to commemorate while staying at home and saving lives!

VENUE

For any big event, you need a venue! Unfortunately, this year our only venue viable to commemorate this day in history is our homes due to the Coronavirus! But a good old house party is what we all miss now that nightclubs and pubs have taken over so why not do it now.

Obviously we can only celebrate it with our family who we have chosen to self-isolate with but it shouldn't stop you from marking the occasion while also complying with social distancing rules.

DECORATIONS

Of course for a big celebration like this you need to give it the feel of a party and by that, we mean making your chosen venue (Your house) look like the huge street parties that normally take place on this weekend each year!

Take a look at our Decorations for VE day for some ideas in how to dress your house up.

FOOD & DRINK

What is a celebration without food and drink? VE day is well known for its celebration of Victory in Europe but its also known for the celebration of rations and the foods they ate back then.

We've come up with a few rationing recipes to spice up your treats on VE Day, view them HERE!

How about trying something quintessentially English like our Afternoon Tea from Home or if you want to be a little more modern with your celebrations try our Easy Cocktails to Make at Home!

However if you're wanting to treat yourself to a delivery from one of your favourite restaurants in Swindon then we have our Food Deliveries Guide or our Alcohol Deliveries Guide if you fancy a cheeky drink or two!

GAMES TO PLAY

A party calls for party games right?

Here are our 10 Best Boardgames to play while in lockdown with all the family and to get you in the party spirit, celebrating VE Day!

PARTY PLAYLIST

A party isn’t complete without a playlist! The 1940’s was known for big band and jazz – as well as new wave electric guitar thanks to Les Paul in 1941.

Use this playlist below courtsey of VE Day 75 to inspire your VE Day sounds:
