Data reveals children are creating the 'laundrette' of Mum and Dad
Does this ring true to you? Whilst we're all spending more time at home, it's fair to say that the mountains of washing seem endless. This has been backed up with Beko's data releasing the amounts of washing we're doing and the top reasons from those who aren't keeping on top of their piles of washing!
Domestic Appliance brand Beko's recently conducted surveys in the South East of England has revealed some very interesting statistics.
What's your reason for not doing washing as regularly as you'd like to? The most common answer on Beko's survey revealed that 40.34% of people can't do the washing as much as they'd like to due to their previous load still being in the drier. Now that's a very valid excuse if you ask us, and definitely a problem we've all faced before!
The remaining statistics revealed 29.18% of those asked said they were too busy, and 3.86% said that they always end up ruining their clothes. It may be surprising to many of you that less than 4% said the latter, because we've all had that 'oh no' moment after realising we've mixed colours with whites. Don't worry - we've all been there!
Have you ever thought about where you'd get your washing done if your trusty machine all of a sudden decided to fail on you? It's a thought that doesn't bear thinking about, especially during lockdown, but of course - it happens! Beko's survey states that almost 50% of residents in the South East would go straight to their parents if the worst was to happen. We all know the Laundrette of Mum and Dad would never let us down!
Almost 30% of the remaining survey participants said they would head to the laundrette, whilst almost 14% would go to friends and just over 5% wouldn't go anywhere. Where would your first port of call be if your washing machine gave up the ghost?
Despite the previous statistic of almost 50% of participants claiming they would use the Laundrette of Mum and Dad if they had problems with their own washing machine, 38% of people have actually never used their parents' washing machine in this scenario, which is the second-highest statistic in the region! An even higher statistic of 46.78% of participants, which is the highest in the region, have never got their parents to do their washing for them if their machine broke.
Now one thing that many of us forget to check, or even think about, is the care label on clothes. You often have to be careful with items like soft, wool jumpers, not only for the condition of the clothes once they come out, but also the washing machine. But how many of us actually check the care labels before hurling a load of washing into the machine in a rush? According to Beko's survey, only 8.6% of participants in the South East always check the care label before washing, which is the second lowest of all regions.
Whether the majority of us don't check care labels due to lack of time, laziness (don't worry - we're all guilty!) or because we think we know best, there's no doubt that when things go wrong or we're unsure how to wash an item, Mum always seems to be the first port of call. This is proven in Beko's survey, where 51% of those in the South East admitted that they would go to their Mum if they needed advice on how to wash an item of clothing. Mum does know best, after all!
How are you coping with keeping up with the washing during these testing times? Let us know if any of these washing habits or statistics resonate in your household - we'd love to know!
