Let's Talk
Local Hairdresser is a Cut Above the Rest
Gabbi John of Goldsworthy’s has secured a place on the prestigious and highly sought-after Schwarzkopf Professional Young Artistic Team (YAT).
This Schwarzkopf Professional team is put together following a gruelling judging process in London where applicants’ live cutting and styling work, presentation skills and team work are assessed. Put through their paces by the expert, external judging panel of industry names of: Professional Hairdresser’s Editor, Nicola Shannon, Editor of PRO Hair and Beauty, Sofie West, award winning photographer Jack Eames, session stylists and Global Ambassador for Schwarzkopf Professional, Tyler Johnston.
The national competition, open to those aged 25 and under, saw entrants compete against each other throughout a nerve-wracking day at Schwarzkopf’s London Academy for the opportunity to work for a year under the wing of the brand’s premier hairdressers and technicians. They will also receive top training from award-winning hairdressers, take to the stage for presentations and style their own photo-shoot as a finale to this spectacular 12 months.
Competition was fierce, but Schwarzkopf Professional’s YAT Manager, Catherine Adams comments, “I am absolutely delighted with the team that has been selected. Each person has great potential and we already have a fantastic spread of existing skills – a couple of great little presenters, a few edgy creatives and some big characters – it’s going to be a fun year! With the brilliant standard that we had I was so confident of getting a fantastic team and we potentially have one of the best yet. I think the people who come into this fantastic youth team honestly get stronger and stronger each year – it’s an exciting part of my job to work with them and bring the very best out of them.”
Gabbi is over the moon with her success in the competition:
“This is a big achievement for me and I feel so proud to be representing both Goldsworthy’s and Schwarzkopf Professional in the hairdressing industry. I have worked on lots of competitions in the salon as a team but this is the first time I have ever entered something alone. I love the creative side of hairdressing so when my boss nominated me to enter for the Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Team it was such an honour.
“When I first joined Goldsworthy’s I went along to watch the Creative Competition final when all of the team were involved which sparked a love of session work and presenting ever since. On the day I was so nervous. We had some big names in front of us on the panel, but the judges were great at giving us feedback and making us feel at ease.
“For me this is a great opportunity to get my name out there and show what I can really do – the team at Goldsworthy’s have been so supportive every step of the way. I love the seasonal trends in the Schwarzkopf Professional Essential Looks so to have the chance to work with the brand and their high profile hairdressers and technicians is amazing.”
The YATs were at London Fashion Week too as their first assignment on their year-long training programme. Assisting head stylist Ben Moth from Easton Regal salon. The team helped create hair for Jasper Garvida’s Ethologie London show. With a theme of ‘La vida bien vivida’ or ‘a life well lived’, the clothes and hair were inspired by Bizet’s Carmen, taking inspiration from traditional Spanish costumes and printed tiles, with lots of frills and bright colours.
