Local Youngsters Gear up for Lexus Rugby National Finals

Earlier this month, boys and girls, aged between 6 and 10, from Swindon Rugby Club took part in the regional finals of the Lexus Rugby Tournament.

The event, held at Cleve RFC saw the budding stars play against teams from Cheltenham, Exeter, Plymouth, Cardiff, Winchester, Newbury, and Cleve.

All of the teams from the club, based in Greenbridge Road, gave a good account with appearances in semi finals and runner up finals and all of the children enjoyed their day out.

The Under 7 boys booked their place in the National Finals after winning against local rivals Cheltenham in their age group final.

The 6 Regional final winners from each age group across the country will meet at Worcester's Sixways Stadium in April for the tournament grand final.

The SRFC coaches said;

"It is fantastic that the children get the chance to play in tournaments and rugby festivals like this so that they get a chance to put their enthusiasm into matches against teams from across the country"

"When children play sports they are naturally competitive but we really try to emphasise the fun element in the sport. By letting them play in this disciplined and teamwork orientated environment is paramount to personal and social development"
