New College Set to Help find World Class Sports Performers
Local support is now on hand for young cyclists who are not yet under the wing of British Cycling.
New College Cycling Academy, the first of its kind anywhere across the country, is set to launch this September, helping support students who aspire to develop their cycling ability.
Until very recently cycling was a minority sport in the UK. National Lottery funding has had a huge impact on the sport and consequently British Cycling has become the ‘go to’ example of how to develop world class sports performers. The main challenge now is to find a way to support those riders who are not part of British Cycling.
The New College Cycling Academy will give students support in fulfilling an ambition and a passion, also helping develop athletic potential.
As part of the Academy, riders will get a Giant TCR road-bike courtesy of Swindon Cycles, race and training clothing, British Cycling membership and race licence, and five hours of guided cycling coaching and mentoring per week.
The opportunity to be part of a cutting-edge project is now open to school leavers looking to study at New College and those already studying there.
Applicants must be passionate about competitive cycling and committed to developing their potential.
