NHS Commits Financial Support for Prospect Hospice

The recently formed Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group, who has taken over the responsibility of designing and delivering quality health services for residents of Swindon and Shrivenham, will be signing a contract with Prospect Hospice.

Tony Ranzetta, the Accountable Officer, and Paul Bearman, Director of Commissioning of Swindon CCG will meet with Angela Jordan, Chief Executive Officer of Prospect Hospice on 19 June 2013 to sign the contract, which signifies the on-going support, and relationship between the CCG and the charity, in addressing the end of life needs of Swindon residents.

Angela Jordan, CEO of Prospect Hospice, said: “I am very pleased the new CCG has so quickly recognised the value of the care we provide for patients and their families each year, and the signing of this contract demonstrates the new body’s commitment to supporting the work of Prospect Hospice.”

In 2012, Prospect Hospice supported the care of almost 2,000 local people in 2012, with annual running costs at the charity of £5.8m, the overwhelming share of which is through donations from within the community it serves. The NHS provided approximately a fifth of that amount. Angela added: “Local support can really help us do more, and we are looking forward to working with the Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group to provide the support our patients and their families need”.

In addition, in April 2013, the Wroughton-based Hospice was successful in its bid to secure a £450,000 from the Department of Health towards installing two family accommodation lodges in its grounds, for families to use during a loved one’s stay on its in-patient unit.

Tony Ranzetta, Accountable Office of Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Prospect Hospice provides an important service to residents of Swindon of the highest quality, and to be able to support this charity in continuing to help so many people and their families is a great privilege”.
