Oliver Bruce: Turning 7 schools, 1 GCSE, and neurodiversity into running multimillion pound companies

Oliver Bruce is making waves in the UK’s entrepreneurial landscape. At just 30, he has founded two multi-million-pound companies and navigated a successful business acquisition.

Yet, beyond these accomplishments, Oliver’s story is marked by overcoming significant personal and professional challenges linked to his neurodiversity, including ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia.

Oliver, who spent his early years moving frequently as a military child, struggled within the rigid confines of the traditional education system. Reflecting on his experience, he described his school years as “formulaic,” a structure ill-suited for someone with his needs. It was only at college, he says, that he truly felt he began to learn in a way that made sense to him. Now, Oliver is a vocal advocate for reforming education, urging for a system that is more inclusive and tailored to individuals of all neurological backgrounds.

Despite his early struggles, Oliver’s entrepreneurial journey took off rapidly. He built two multi-million-pound businesses before turning 30, even as he faced significant setbacks - including losing a £12 million deal with Amazon just weeks after securing it. “I’ve been on the most expensive, yet valuable, MBA anyone could undertake, thanks to the mistakes I’ve made,” Oliver stated, highlighting his belief that failure is an essential part of growth in business.

Oliver’s unique outlook, shaped by a combination of his neurodiversity and life experiences, has been crucial to his success. “Coping mechanisms and a perspective that differed from the norm led me naturally to entrepreneurship, even if it wasn’t planned,” he explained. He credits his neurodiverse condition as a driving force behind his innovative thinking and his ability to approach challenges from a fresh angle.

Now, Oliver is sharing his expertise and experiences through a successful podcast, which ranks in the top 5% of business shows globally. The podcast features conversations with entrepreneurs and business leaders, offering listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the formative years of start-up life. Oliver tackles critical topics such as venture capital, employee equity, and the jargon that often confuses new founders. He also sheds light on the prevalence of neurodiversity in the entrepreneurial space, providing insights on how to navigate difficult times.

“There’s no good time to start a business, but in business, you should always have a good time,” Oliver remarked, emphasising his philosophy. Despite the challenges he’s faced, he remains dedicated to building impactful ventures and inspiring others to see their differences as strengths, not obstacles.

Oliver Bruce’s journey serves as a powerful example of resilience, adaptability, and innovation. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs, showing that success often comes from embracing one’s unique path and pushing through adversity.
