Review: A stay at Lydiard Park Hotel

For a picturesque and comfortable lodging in Swindon choose Lydiard Park Hotel. Last weekend, I enjoyed spending a night at this accommodation situated at a beloved, historic estate.

The Hotel and Conference Centre has lovely surroundings being right next to the well-known Lydiard House and surrounded by the huge 260-acre park, complete with a duck-inhabited lake.

Arriving:

For drivers, the hotel has a car park that’s conveniently a stone’s throw away from the entrance. Upon arrival the reception desk was ready to welcome us and give us all the information we needed. We were given a car parking permit which gave us the space for free until check out time at 11am the next day. The hotel’s free Wi-Fi details were handed to us on a slip of paper with our room’s key card attached to it, and with that we were ready to get our stay started!

Room:

We were in a Standard Double Room En-Suite on the ground floor but you can also find this room type on the first and second floors. It was pristinely tidy and fresh the perfectly tucked bedding caught my eye first. Placed on top of it were folded towels and a booklet summing up all the venue has to offer – accommodation, fine dining, conferencing and events. The overhead lighting brightly and evenly lit up the space while the two side lamps on either side of the bed provided calming, golden-hued, low lighting before going to sleep, with switches right below them. Each side also has a double plug socket with USB inserts.

The desk had a tea and coffee making station featuring a kettle mugs, glasses, teaspoons, milk, original and decaf coffee granules, teabags, sweetener, sugar, semi-skimmed milk and biscuits. A wooden-framed square mirror is on the wall the desk leans against, a double plug and USB sockets, a fan as well as two storage draws beneath. Other storage space in the room includes the two bedside tables each with a shelf. The wardrobe comes with an open hanging space with 4 hangers and a large bottom draw which was especially helpful for me who likes to fully unpack during a hotel stay.

The television was mounted on the wall in direct view from the cosy bed, it comes with Freeview and YouTube. Next to the tv is a longer mirror, both fitting the light-wash wood décor throughout the room. For all the gadget-lovers out there underneath the mirror is another double plug and USB sockets – there’s no chance you phone is dying during your time at Lydiard Park Hotel!

The en-suite bathroom was chicly modern, with grey tiling coating the walls and a glass screen for the tower. The heated towel rail in chrome matched the shelf in the shower stocked with extra towels and the two shower heads. The large waterfall shower head made for a luxurious sojourn and the dual function shower system additionally come with a hand shower for those (like me) who don’t want to get their hair wet! Complimentary bar soap, bath & shower gel and shampoo & conditioner were given as well as spare disposable bags.

Bar:

In the evening, we headed to the Palm Bar & Restaurant for drinks and they were well stocked with many options to choose from. Past the ceiling-to-floor glass doors, was a charming outdoor seating area that had vines draping loosely on the walls. The family we found sat there are regular visitors and after receiving exemplary service from the barman – we understood why the spot was so well favoured. I enjoyed a pink gin and lemonade while hearing pop music covers played gently over the speakers.

Breakfast:

In the morning, we were back at the Palm Bar & Restaurant at the front of the hotel for breakfast which ran until 11am, since it was a Sunday. The server set up with high quality napkins, shiny cutlery and a menu with a range of tempting breakfast foods. We opted for their full English Breakfast and Eggs Benedict. The waitress and chef happily catered to our tastes by allowing us to make changes to the full English, asking for scrambled eggs instead of fried and removing the black pudding. The Eggs Benedict came with two pieces of streaky bacon and a vibrant hollandaise sauce on an English Muffin. We ordered a cappuccino, a hot water and an apple juice as our drinks. The breakfast was brought out promptly and tasted delicious.

After breakfast we got ready and made our way out after a satisfying stay. To find out more about Lydiard Park Hotel and Conference Centre and plan your visit, CLICK HERE!
