Review: Eastcutt Grooming

When our new Content Editor Emily heard about the much anticipated opening of Eastcutt Grooming at Eastcott Vets in Old Town, she was eager to take her Pomeranian Layla along. Here is how she got on:

Having a long haired white dog can definitely have its drawbacks; Layla disappears in the snow and it’s near enough impossible to wear anything black. Keeping a white dog white takes a lot of dedication, lots of brushing and combing – this combined with her long Pomeranian coat makes for quite a high maintenance dog.

Layla loves to run around and play – no matter what the weather. This is fine in the cooler months but when the summer sets in and the days get warmer she really struggles with the heat.

When the heat gets too much, Layla gets really lethargic and hides away inside. As a dog owner, it is horrible to see your fluffy companion transform into such a recluse.  Luckily for Layla, all it takes is a quick trip to the groomers for a summer clip and she is back to her old self; running around, playing and chasing the butterflies in our garden.

I have been looking for a groomer since we moved back to Swindon and it has proved a lot harder than it looks - with most places booked up months in advance. When I heard that the well renowned Eastcott Vets had launched a new dog grooming service at their Bath Road clinic, aptly named ‘Eastcutt Grooming’, I was excited to get in touch.

Tracey is the head groomer, and is City and Guilds qualified with heaps of experience. Although handing over your dog to someone else can be a nerve racking experience, Tracey put me right at ease. It was great to see how well she handled Layla, she was calm and collected and most importantly made Layla feed comfortable.

Getting your dog groomed or clipped is a very personal decision, and Tracey completely understands this. She gave me a full consultation to make sure Layla was groomed and clipped exactly how we required. Tracey is extremely professional and is happy to discuss different options however, understandably, she would not groom a dog if she felt it would put them under undue stress or would jeopardise the dog’s health or happiness.

Tracey gave me a tour of the facilities, including the washing area which is designed to be open and spacious to help the dogs feel relaxed and not enclosed. I was really impressed with Tracey’s knowledge as she explained each process to me.

For Layla, we opted for short clip all over. I was really pleased with the cut. Tracey made sure it was even all over and trimmed the areas around her face to make sure the cut blended well. For me, having Layla clipped is purely to keep her comfortable in hot weather, and the cut Tracey did was exactly what I was after.

I really recommend Tracey at Eastcutt Groomers, I felt that Layla was in safe hands and she listened carefully to my requests whilst taking Layla’s welfare into account. You really couldn’t ask for more from your dog groomer.
