REVIEW: Facial Treatment and Massage at Gem’s Beauty

Our very lucky Digital Content Administrator, Katie, was invited along by the lovely ladies at Gem’s Beauty to experience their Essential Facial and a back massage. Here’s how she got on!

Having never had any type of professional beauty treatment, I was very much looking forward to trying it out for the first time at the Gem’s Beauty salon. I arrived at the salon and was warmly welcomed by my lovely therapist Ellie, who talked me through what was going to happen and had me fill out a form to state any skin/health conditions I have that may need to be considered during the treatment.

I was then taken into the cosy treatment room which was dimly lit with candles and with the soft calming music, I felt relaxed from the moment I stepped in! Ellie then talked through any issues I stated on the form to ensure the treatments were safe for me, and asked what problems I have with my skin so she could tailor the facial to my specific needs.

The first part of the treatment was the back massage, there was various oils to choose from and with it being a lovely sunny day I opted for a fresh grapefruit scent. As someone who has never had a professional massage before, when asked whether I’d prefer light or firm pressure I was a little unsure, Ellie assured me that she would go in between and just to let her know if it was uncomfortable. She remained very professional and was extremely accommodating throughout the treatment by ensuring I felt at ease with everything.

During the massage I felt as if I was floating on cloud! With the heated bed and the sense of being in tranquil environment with all the calming scents and music there’s no doubt that you’re able to fully relax here – I could’ve fallen asleep and laid there all day! The massage was just the right amount of pressure to work all the knots and aches in my back away.

After the soothing massage it was time to move on to the facial. The facial used various products from BeautyLab’s Essential range which provides deep hydration and protection from free radicals and UV damage – perfect for someone with dry skin like me! The treatment started with make-up remover, exfoliator, cleanser and toner to clean and prep my skin and get rid of any make up residue. Ellie was very cautious and gentle when using products on the face, especially around the eyes which was very comforting. Next was the face mask; as this was left on for a few minutes I had a choice of either a scalp, hand or foot massage while we waited. I opted for a hand massage which was really relaxing and a great way to fill time as the mask soaked into my skin! To finish, Ellie massaged serums and moisturisers into my skin to leave it feeling fresh and hydrated.

The key ingredients in the BeautyLab products are ceramides to improve skin hydration, Hawaiian seaplant to firm and smooth, and micro-algar to increase formation of collagen, and once the facial was complete I could feel these benefits instantly! My skin felt extremely moisturised and smooth and Ellie assured me that the moisturiser she finished off with had SPF 20, so my skin would be protected when I went back out in the sun.

The treatments had finished and I was so relaxed I could’ve easily drifted off to sleep! Ellie left me to chill out for a few minutes and slowly rise from my daze. When I stood up I was amazed by how light and loose my back felt – I question why I never had a back massage before! My skin felt completely refreshed, soft to touch and like new; definitely a treatment I’d recommend for anyone who’s skin needs a good pampering! I left with advice and suggestions from Ellie on how to best care for my skin as well as free samples of some of the BeautyLab products she had used.

The whole experience of the 90 minute treatment at Gem’s Beauty was divine, not only is it a great way to pamper your skin and body, but also a chance to de-stress, take time out and simply unwind. The only struggle was having to snap myself out of it and get back to work! I couldn't have been happier with the results, I left the salon feeling completely elated and brand new – a priceless feeling!
