REVIEW: Gem’s Beauty Lab Full Body Treatment

With winter well and truly underway the only wrapping, I had planned for the weekend was that of myself under several warm blankets.

Nonetheless, when asked if I would trial Gem’s new Beauty Lab Full Body treatment including thermal body wrap and scalp massage, I awoke from my seasonal slumber excited for the opportunity to trial the latest treatment of both A-list stars and X Factor contestants.

From the offset Gem’s Beauty provides both a warm welcome and an intimate space nestled behind bustling Havelock Street. As an inexperienced spa user, I am prone to feeling a little uneasy when receiving treatments and relaxing into the experience. Nonetheless, Becca reassured me completely with both her explanations and catering of the treatment to my needs and preferences.

The treatment began with an all over body exfoliation applied with massaging strokes removing dead skin cells and awakening my inner glow. I had fully anticipated for the experience to be uncomfortable, akin to sand rubbing over my skin. Whereas the beauty lab exfoliating scrub was fine in texture, applied with gentle rhythmic strokes which soothed on both application and removal besides being extremely relaxing.

Following the exfoliation, a thermal heating body mask was applied to warm my skin, release tension and open my pores in preparation for the final stages of moisturisation. Once again, my pre-conceptions of the solution were challenged and proved wrong. With the mask akin to a serum, light on the skin and barely noticeable opposed to the gloopy, syrupy mask I had envisioned.

The warming process starts with the wrapping of the body in both a plastic sheet and a warm blanket. It can be a little strange to start with, but the best action you can take as the recipient is to relax. A task made easy by the scalp massage received throughout the period of the mask’s activation, releasing tension and calming the mind. Throughout the whole process I was reassured by Becca (my beautician) who never left the room, regularly checked if I was comfortable and helped me to feel at ease throughout the treatment.

The final stage of the experience is the applying of firming gels and moisturiser, nourishment that was gratefully received by my revitalised skin. Becca advised the importance of leaving these lotions on for as long as possible to allow for the maximum effect. Although given the silkiness of the lotions applied it is quite easy to do so.

As with all treatments, the success lies not only in the actions but the beautician. Becca was both professional but passionate about meeting my needs and exceeding my expectations.

All of which makes Gem’s Beauty Lab Full Body Treatment fantastic value for money, with the combination of staged elements and calming nature of the process it is an excellent way to kick off a busy season.

After my treatment, I felt relaxed, refreshed and party ready. My only problem, my only party plans were that of dropping my daughter and her friends off at a disco!

The Beauty Lab Full Body Treatment is wonderful for toning and skin hydration. For best results, Becca recommends a course of treatments. All Beauty Lab Full Body treatments bookings made in October and November receive a free Gem’s Beauty goody bag which includes a discount voucher for 15% off your next treatment.
