Snapped: VJ Day Swindon

Crowds gathered by the cenotaph in Swindon town centre on Sunday, to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory In Japan Day and the final end of the Second World War. Army veterans, relatives, and members of the public joined Mayor of Swindon Andrew Bennett to pay their respects to the ‘forgotten victims’ of the conflict. Organised by the Royal British Legion’s Pop-In Information and Advice centre, the ceremony marked 70 years since the Americans dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Japanese surrendered.
