Let's Talk
TGt Meets... Jodie & Lisa
We spoke to Jodie & Lisa, personal trainers and founders of Workout Warriors, about how they stay fit and healthy and the most rewarding part of their job!
How do you stay fit and healthy?
We train in the same way we train our clients, our sessions (both group and private) have been personally tried and tested ourselves. We incorporate a mixture of resistance training using weight, High intensity circuits, and body weight training. We are constantly changing it up and make it fun!
We don’t follow diets, we don’t count calories, we just use our common sense when it comes to food. We see food as an opportunity to fuel and nourish our body.
Do you have a motto or favourite motivational quote?
We love – ‘it never gets easier, you just get stronger’ AND ‘ take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.’
People often struggle with fitness motivation; how do you keep yours?
We train together! We have so much more fun and that is why we encourage fitness buddy’s and group training. Studies have proven you will be more consistent and push yourself more when training with others.
What are your tips for people looking to get into shape?
Have a plan, start with sessions that are little and often and eat clean, cut all processed food!
People often over estimate the amount of exercise required to get into shape. The best way to get results is to work with a fitness professional (be it in person, or online) when first starting out until you feel confident you have the knowledge to go it alone.
What are some mistakes people make when working out?
Not executing with the correct form – you are at risk of injury, and you could also be wasting your time on the exercise.
Another common mistake is overtraining – doing hardcore sessions for more than an hour, or not planning in rest days – the rest days are crucial to progression, this is the part when you get stronger.
Are there any exercises you advise against?
Not in general no, there will be certain exercises individuals can’t do due to injuries or body composition.
What music do you listen to when you work out?
Everything and anything upbeat! Music is proven to have a massive impact on your efforts in a session…nothing chilled until the cooldown.
What foods are always in your fridge?
We have such similar taste in food it is bizzare! We share an obsession with rocket, avocado, homous, seeded bread. Lisa can’t go a day without eggs!
What's been the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing women’s self-confidence and belief in themselves grow. There is nothing more rewarding than when a client tells you they can’t do it, and that moment they prove themselves wrong and realise they can!
Whether it’s going up a weight, completing that rep, or finishing the circuit, the smile on their face is priceless. We absolutely love what we do!
