How did you come to work for Oasis Leisure Centre and tell us a little bit about your role?
I was looking for an apprenticeship on GOV.uk and found a job going at this centre which included lifeguarding, swim teaching and fitness instructing. I lifeguard 39 hours a week and swim teach for 4 hours. I’m responsible for helping poolside function as well as performing daily risk assessments.
What do you think makes the Oasis Leisure Centre stand out from its competitors?
The retro feel of the place as well as the wave pool.
What is your favourite facility at Oasis Leisure Centre?
Probably the gym, I enjoy the variety of the equipment as well as going before or after my shift.
What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
Cleaning is probably my favourite part as its rewarding and a nice break from being on the really hot poolside.
How do you like to spend your time off?
Going to the gym, cycling as well as playing the guitar.
Describe Swindon in 3 words...
Growing, diverse and different
You have a meeting booked that suddenly gets cancelled, giving you a few hours to yourself in Swindon – what do you do?
I’d probably meet up with a few friends or go to the gym here at Oasis.
What have been your key challenges and how have you overcome them?
Coming into a professional workplace and having to mature very quickly. Since I have only just come out of school it was very difficult to transfer into the adult lifestyle I’ve come to know. So by having knock backs and through character building I have learnt to be more mature and more professional.
What has been your biggest achievement to date?
Raising £835 for cancer by doing the ‘Brave the Shave’ as well as donating my hair to ‘The Little Princess Trust’.
What are your plans for Oasis Leisure Centre for the future?
I hope to expand my fitness instructing and swim teaching skills as well as become a lifeguard TA in the future.
