TGt Meets...Tom, manager at Anytime Fitness
Meet our latest TGt Meets...Tom, the manager of Anytime Fitness! We got to know Tom's tips on how to stay fit and healthy and how Anytime Fitness can help!
How did you turn your passion for fitness into a career?
I qualified with a Sports Studies degree from University of Southampton in 2012 and immediately found a role in recruitment, my aim was to do that for a short time until I found my dream job in the fitness industry, 12 years down the line and I was still working in sales, working silly hours and not finding enough time to do my own fitness, never mind fitness in my career. I quit my job in 2014 and decided to focus more on my passion. As luck would have it Anytime Fitness were opening a location in Truro. I started with them from pre-sale and absolutely loved the change, the mindset of the company was exactly how I felt fitness should be and the rest is history.
What makes Anytime Fitness different to any other gym?
Anytime Fitness are member-focused in a way that most other gyms aren’t. We really put our clients first and do whatever we can to help the ‘make healthy happen’ with us. From free personal training sessions to an amazing workouts app to fitness classes included in the price, we treat each member as an individual and work with them to reach their fitness goals. The other great thing is that Anytime encourage all their gyms to reach out into the local community through charity fundraising and community-involvement, like the sausage and ale festival in Old Town and our ‘FIT STREET’ promotion. We really have a focus on sharing our ‘make healthy happen’ philosophy with people from all walks of life.
How can Anytime Fitness help people feel motivated to stay fit and healthy?
Variety, Support, Atmosphere
These are our three most important ways we keep people at the gym, we’re not the biggest but we offer an unrivalled level of variety so workouts never get boring or stagnant.
We offer fantastic support with a fully-qualified professional team, our aim is that we will never have a member leave the club because they feel like they don’t know how to reach their goals.
The atmosphere at the club is second to none, we are a really inclusive club with ages from 18-87, people of all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life and that makes for a fantastic, welcoming environment to train in.
What are your tips for people looking to get into shape?
Walk through the door at Anytime Fitness, you don’t need to know what to do straight away, we can show you how.
What’s your favourite piece of equipment to use at the gym?
Olympic Barbell
There are so many exercises you can do with the most basic pieces of equipment.
Do you have a motto or favourite motivational quote?
It’s got to be the Anytime motto ‘Make Healthy Happen’ Changing your health habits doesn’t happen on its own, you need to make it happen.
What are some mistakes people make when training/working towards a weight or fitness goal?
With new people to the gym a lot of people over do it. Training doesn’t always need to be training your body into submission all the time, it needs to be manageable and fun as well to make it into a habit.
What music do you listen to when you work out?
I love chill house music, whether it’s at the gym or at home my playlist pretty much always stays the same, Rufus Du Sol is my favourite artist.
What are some of your go to healthy snacks?
Ummmm, I’m probably the wrong person to ask here, I tend to eat up to 4,000 calories a day so I don’t necessarily have to eat that healthy. My go-to post-workout snack though: Toasted bagels with crunchy peanut butter. The dream.
What do you love most about working at Anytime Fitness?
The culture of the brand. It’s really refreshing to find a global company that puts such an emphasis on the satisfaction of their customers. It makes working for them a pleasure rather than a chore.
