Theatre at the Bowl opens this Saturday

Organised by South Swindon Parish Council, 'Theatre at the Bowl' opens this weekend with a brand-new season of outdoor theatre experiences for the summer, across various dates from Saturday 10 July - Friday 20 August, from within Town Gardens Bowl.

Hosting a variety of professional touring theatre companies from across the UK, looking to inspire and entertain audiences of all ages, the season opens with BlackBox Theatre Company’s outdoor production of Noël Coward’s timeless classic, Blithe Spirit, this Saturday 10 July, from 7pm. 2021 also marks 80 years since it was first premiered to audiences in London’s West End.

Cllr Neil Hopkins of South Swindon Parish Council said, “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the community back into Town Gardens Bowl for a summer full of safe outdoor theatre experiences for all the family. There’s something for everyone and we’ve a range of discounts available for blue light cardholders, as well as carers concessions. Plus, we’re pleased to be able to offer a range of food and drink to pre-book and purchase from the much-loved Town Gardens Cafe."

Continuing the season, The Last Baguette present King Arthur on Saturday 17 July, as a story of the old world with knights, wizards, mist and magic come to life for a fun and farcical family adventure, at 2:30pm and 7pm.

Get your glad rags on for an outdoor adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby with Heartbreak Productions and the Nick Carraway quartet. This evening of jazz with a true Heartbreak Productions twist is the perfect way to mark 100 years since prohibition, on Friday 30 July, from 7:30pm.

An afternoon of enchanting storytelling full of magic, puppetry, and music is guaranteed on Saturday 31 July, as Heartbreak Productions invite you to Wonder with Grimm, entering into the fantastical world of the Brothers Grimm - with altered endings and modern twist, performed in the round, from 3pm.

Thursday 19 & Friday 20 August will be packed with live music, uproarious comedy and heartbreak, as The Duke's Theatre Company delivers the classical text of Romeo & Juliet with modern clarity and relevance. This is a story as current and relatable today as it was when it was first performed over 400 years ago. Be prepared to fall in love all over again, from 7pm daily!

Theatre at the Bowl opens this Saturday 10 July and runs until Friday 20 August.
