Threshold’s BIG SWINDON SleepOut 2019
It’s 66 Days to Go! to the biggest homeless solidarity event across the region in the sector.
It’s really simple to register so make sure you do! Check out the below:
1) Follow all their social impact on Facebook @THLSwindon
2) Simply register your details (Excel Doc) of all those joining you (friends, family, colleagues) they've made this event a super family-friendly event. Last year they had children with their parents as young as 6 with the eldest being 87!. Simply complete and sent this back to me.
3) Begin securing sponsorship to support the critical human services and support that Threshold provides.
This year Threshold is celebrating their 47th year ‘Helping the Homeless’ of Swindon.
They are inviting teams of 47 to join them to take a stand in solidarity with our town’s homeless.
They would love as many teams of 47 as possible to take part. They are happy to help join smaller teams – it could be 47 colleagues from larger employers, ie. 47 NHS staff, 47 runners, 47 football players – 47 in number from all kinds of groups, clubs, and professions would be really fun! Irrespective of the group size, everyone is most welcome! The challenge is beautifully simple. Form any size team that will take part in direct community engagement in celebration of the 47 years Threshold has been providing critical human services and support to Swindon’s homeless.
Threshold’s Big SleepOut is Swindon’s longest-running annual solidarity event, help them raise funds for their vital work to help rough sleepers and those moving on from life on the street.
Join the most compassionate, selfless and caring individuals on Friday 6th Dec from 8:00PM –, at Supermarine Sports Club SN3 4BZ for 1 night only as they place in the shoes of those that are forced to sleep rough on the streets of their town. Join hundreds that will bed down in the cold to change the lives of those who do that every night until a charity like Threshold can give them a ‘chance to change’.
They serve hot drinks and soups throughout the evening and cooked breakfast for all participants from 06:00AM vacating the site around 07:30 on Sat 7th Dec.
Michael Keenan Threshold’s CDO said, “Threshold’s BIG Swindon SleepOut brings out the most compassionate and caring individuals from all over the region and from within this great town. The event, brings together the most beautiful, selfless people, all in one place and at one time! It’s a real celebration of our humanity. It’s a super friendly family experience, we’re joined by loads of families with little kids with their parents as young as 6, to an elderly lady who is 87! It’s truly remarkable, there’s such an absolutely amazing energy and vibe. We can’t wait to host it again this year!”
Jessica Poulton, who attended with her young son last year said, “I absolutely love that it’s a family event. It’s never too young to teach children compassion and gratitude. We are very fortunate that we live in a nice house and sleep in warm beds, yet there are others in our town that simply don’t. It’s been a very great experience to do this together with my son”.
Michael said “The event promotes positive teamwork and community solidarity. Unfortunately, loneliness and isolation, and lack of positive re-enforcement often pervade the lives of those that have been living on the street. We know that life is always better when you can share part of the journey with others. Threshold’s BIG Swindon SleepOut promotes strong community cohesion as we tackle this major societal issue together. The event is a sponsored SleepOut, the funds raised allow the charity to provide the support that’s required to help people off the street and on the stepping stones to realising their individual and personal success”.
