We recommend
1. Empty out everything
Start off by taking everything out and completely emptying your wardrobes or drawers. Place it on you floor, beds or sofas and go through it, item by item.
This way you aren’t struggling to get to clothes, and you can properly look through and always find items that you never even knew that you owned.
When looking through and picking clothes, place them into categorized piles like keep, donate or throw out etc. You’ll also be surprised the amount of dirty clothes you may have shoved back in your wardrobe too, so throw them in the wash!
2. Do the outfit test
In order to work out whether you should keep something, make sure you can create more than one outfit out of it.
When you’re looking through your clothes, try a few bits and pieces on and create outfits that you could potentially put together but perhaps never knew you could or never knew you had a certain piece to go with it.
This is a great way in reusing old pieces of clothing that you were going to throw away.
3. Set Rules
Set yourself a few rules of what is allowed back in your wardrobes and what isn’t.
If you haven't worn it in a year and it's still in good condition, it goes in the charity bag.
If it has holes, worn-out elastic or rips that can't be repaired, throw it in the bin.
If it needs a button or has a hole you or a tailor can easily fix, put the item in the repair pile.
If it's not your style, it goes in the charity bag.
If it's fantastic, you love it and you wear it, put it in the keep pile.
If it has stains put it in the repair pile.
If it doesn't fit, donate it.
4. Be seasonal
When rearranging and putting clothes back in the wardrobes after sorting them out, try organising them into seasonal trends. E.g. if we’re in spring, place spring clothes nearer the front of the wardrobe to find them easier and quicker.
This is a great way to separate your clothes seasonally and knowing you have the right clothes for the right season.
5. Remove off-season items
Remove off-season clothing from your closet to free up some needed space. If you didn’t wear an item at all last year, get rid of it. Then, store the remaining pieces in a separate closet where they will not be in your way cluttering up your closet.
If you’ve got any plastic containers that can be put at the bottom of the wardrobes or underneath a bed, these are really useful for putting off season clothes in and not mixing with current season clothes.
6. Divide
If you’ve got wardrobe and drawers full of clothes and at the moment they are just in a mess with no order to them, you want to divide which clothes take more importance like work clothes and put them nearer the front of your wardrobe or drawer. However still sticking to organising them seasonally.
7. Colour Code
Once you’ve divided your clothes into what you would wear daily and organised it into seasonal trends, for added organisation, you can colour code it into lights to darks or winter colours and summer colours.
By assembling your clothes into similar colours and fabrics, you’ll find that everything goes together more easily when you’re in a rush, plus it’ll look a lot more appealing.
8. Display your top pieces
Once you’ve put your clothes back into new and improved places, you can always choose to place some of your favourite pieces on display like a designer bag or shoes on a shelf. Sometimes having every bag or pair of shoes in a box or dust bag will mean you forget about them. The more you put on display, the more you will wear them!
