What to Write in Graduation Cards

When someone is graduating from an academic course, such as from university or high school, it can be a thoughtful gesture to celebrate the occasion and remember the hard work the individual has put in by offering graduation cards.

Graduation is a very special occasion to remember, as it symbolises the completion of a long challenge that one has undertaken, and so a graduation card is a great way to congratulate someone for all the hard work that they have done to graduate. However, unlike cards to mark other celebrations, such as birthdays or Christmas, finding what to write in graduation cards can be challenging. If you have chosen unique and well-designed graduation cards, such as the ones from Boomf.com, then you need an equally special message to go with it.

The following article will cover some useful tips and pointers that you can use to include in your graduation card messages if you are really stuck with what to write!

The Structure of Your Message

The structure of a graduation card message can be broken down into three basic sections. These are:

“Dear…” - The opening line where you address who the card is from.

“Congratulations on graduating…” – The main body of your card message. This is where you congratulate the recipient for graduating as well as include something else thoughtful and meaningful to mark the occasion.

“From…” – The part where you sign the card off by saying who it is from.

Already from the structure pointed out above, you have a very basic card structure that you can follow, as well as a basic template. This can be replicated in your graduation cards as follows:

  • Dear so-and-so…,
  • Congratulations on graduating!
  • From (your name).

Now, this message isn’t very long, nor is it very meaningful or unique. You will want to add something else thoughtful under the main congratulatory statement to add meaning to your card. Stuck on what to write? Don’t worry, it isn’t as hard as you think.

Hard Work Pays Off

One thing that you can include under the congratulatory statement is a reference to all the hard work that the recipient has done to graduate. Graduating is no easy task, and so you want to give the recipient recognition for all they have done. This could look something like this:

  • Well done for working so hard in your extra-curricular activities – all of your extra studying has really paid off!

Make Them Feel Special

Another great thing you can include in the message of your card is something to make the recipient feel extra special on their big day. Hard work is a key to success, but it also requires someone truly special. Therefore, try to come up with a message that the recipient will read and feel touched. This could look something like this:

  • You are so incredibly gifted, and really are one in a million!

This will make the reader feel very special on their big graduation day.

Life after Graduation

An additional thing that you can include at the end of the body of your message is to mention what will come after graduation. Let the reader know that now they have graduated, all the hard work they have put in to get this far will be proof that they can succeed in what is to come – whether that is to progress their studies or enter the adult world!

  • You have shown us that you can do anything you put your mind to, and so I am certain you will do well in the future!

Writing a message to include in a graduation card shouldn’t be a daunting task. It certainly isn’t as hard as graduating itself! Using the tips and pointers provided in this article, you should be able to comfortably write your graduation cards and add a meaningful and thoughtful message inside.
