A YEAR TO REMEMBER..

Fiona Scott has been running her media consultancy Scott Media for almost 15 years and has been a qualified journalist, working in newspapers, magazines, radio and tv for over 35 years. Today she runs a successful microbusiness from Swindon working with business owners, entrepreneurs and experts from all across the UK. Fiona and her freelance team also offer media training, animation and video services.

It's easy to be downbeat about these last 12 months in business. We all seemed to be slowly emerging from a pandemic and various lockdowns into a world where the impacts of a disorganised Brexit, a war in Europe and a cost of living crisis often felt overwhelming.

Yet in all of this, business still needs to be done and it seemed more important than ever to show up positively in every community across the UK and shine a light on amazing and powerful stories.

With this in mind here are just ten wonderful things which happened for me and my business in 2022 and which, I believe, will bring benefits for years to come, both professionally and personally.

  1. I started this year running my first residential PR & Business Retreat where myself, national journalist Jill Foster and business coaches Taz Thornton and Samantha Scott played host to 16 business owners who wanted to learn about PR in business. I plan to run another in 2024 so do let me know if you are interested – [email protected]

  2. I also started the year having been awarded the title of the UK’s top PR Adviser for SMEs from Enterprise Nation (2021 to 2022) and was shortlisted once again this year for the 2022 to 2023 title. What a wonderful recognition.

  3. My podcast – PR Not BS with Fiona Scott – reached its first anniversary and hit over 1,700 downloads. More to come in 2023.

  4. I secured 100s of pieces of coverage, interviews and tv appearances for my retained clients across the year – from local, regional to national and even international.

  5. I supported many business owners in start-up mode or in the early years with PR training and guidance through my power hours – allowing them to pick and choose how to use my services when their budgets were tight.

  6. My free Facebook group – Fiona Scott’s PR Tribe – grew organically and now has over 700 members who understand the value of public relations and marketing and they engage regularly.

  7. I raised money for charity – recently raising £1,500 to support Ainslie’s Pavilion Project – and also encouraged my clients to do the same. Between us we’ve raised thousands for good causes.

  8. Personally, we finally managed to get solar panels sorted for our roof and we hope in 2023 to be able to reduce our day to day energy usage from the Grid.

  9. My husband and I managed to get away in our caravan several times across the year, including a summer holiday in France and Italy when the weather was in the high 30s and low 40s. And it was the same when we got back home too!

  10. The biggest moment of the year for us was the birth of our first grandson Oliver who came along to his wonderful parents Lauren & Gareth. Holding him for the first time was a moment none of us in the Scott household will ever forget.

Wishing you all a happy, peaceful and prosperous 2023!
