August is a busy one for Alex Peters at Green Park Brasserie
August is upon us – it’s the month of holidays, summer fun and time off for many people. So how are small business owners coping with the month often known as ‘silly season’?
Today we’re talking to Alex Peters who is director at Green Park Brasserie (Steakhouse & Jazz Bar) and Bath Pizza Co. at Green Park Station, Bath.
How is August looking in your business?
August is one of our busiest months of the year and when we reach our favourite part of summer. Long sunny days and ice cold drinks, beers and cocktails on the busy terraces are probably most enjoyable in August with a real buzz in the city.
What are your personal plans for this month?
Away from the business it’s a time to catch up with friends and family. Trips down the M5 to Devon and Cornwall for some time in the water, bike rides and pub lunches overlooking the ocean to recharge.
What advice/tips would you give to small business owners trying to navigate the ‘holiday’ period?
For hospitality I think it’s about trying to find a balance of offering exceptional customer value while still being able to keep the lights on. Making sure your team are still well rested during busy times is key and something we work hard to ensure.
August 13 was International Left Handers Day. Are you left-handed and what issues, if any, have you ever had around being left handed?
We’re going to launch a left handed pizza to make things easier for our left handed guests at Bath Pizza Co. Check out the details here: https://www.bathpizzaco.com/blog/left-handed-pizza
August 20 is World Photo Day. Can you share a photo as an attachment which means something to you this year so far?
We’re loving our Aperol Terrace this summer. Great drinks and sunshine vibes.
Did you know August 21 is World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself?
For me entrepreneurship is about versatility and being agile. Our Chairman’s favourite quote is: “Business is not about the big or the small - it’s about the fast and the slow.” This is a mantra that has never been more apt for our business.
Can you name one business you’d like to give a summer shout out too?
Keeping with the hospitality theme, the team at Taylor’s Bagels are doing a great job and have exciting growth plans. What’s more - they’re great people with a quality product: instagram.com/taylors.bagels

Have you got any events planned for the autumn you’d like to shout about – either that you are running or attending?
At Green Park Brasserie, our live music (4 nights: Weds/Thurs/Fri/Sat) of live jazz, funk, soul and swing is year round and we love the atmosphere in the Autumn when we get a bit more candle-lit moody as the seasons roll through. Our Sunday Roast comes into its own as well and we see a huge uptick in demand for our incredible Roast Lunch offering.
