August Talk with Mike Lloyd

It’s the first week of August – the month of holidays, summer fun and time off for many people. How are small business owners coping with the month often known as ‘silly season’?
Today we're talking to Mike Lloyd who is managing partner of Haines Watts Swindon which has its office in Swindon's Old Town, Mike has been leading the team for over 25 years and they support business owners across Swindon and Wiltshire. Haines Watts as a brand has offices across the UK and is the 15th largest accountancy company in the country.

How is August looking in your business? Does this month hold any special significance in your business? Anniversary, milestone, accreditation, new premises? New staff?
August is a very busy as new work continues to come in. We are continuing with our recruitment drive!

What are your personal plans for this month – if you are happy to share? Can you give us a ‘tip’ for places to visit during this summer month?
I’m going to Stonedead Rock Festival in Nottingham on the bank holiday weekend.

August 20 is World Photo Day – can you share a photo which means something to you this year so far?

Did you know August 21 is World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself?
Entrepreneurs ae the lifeblood of our economy and without their “blood sweat and tears” it would grind to a halt. I have owned (in partnership) and grown several accountancy practices over the last 27 years so I guess I would yes.

We are in a cost of living crisis at the moment? Is that impacting you at all in life or business? Do you have any money-saving tips you can share?
That is a tough one. A lot of it is outside our control but I am doing what I can to keep my fuel bills down and trying to eat a bit less!!
