Caroline Peyton

Caroline Peyton of Peyton Principles has had a brilliant May!

It's the end of May and the year is going by so quickly. We're talking to small business owners about how the month has been for them.

Today we’re talking to Caroline Peyton of Peyton Principles, a nutritionist, naturopath, and gut health expert helping those who suffer with unresolved digestive and gut symptoms to finally find relief. She also provides workshops to employers to help fuel a high-performance culture. Caroline is Swindon and Cotswolds based but also works online globally.

Can you share a business tip around some aspect of business which is relevant to you and your business at this time of year?
Many people suffer with allergies and hayfever at this time of year. Whilst taking a proactive approach during the Winter months long before the start of the hayfever season is the most beneficial approach to help provide lasting relief, these are some tips to help you manage your symptoms day to day
Vitamin C, found in many fruits and vegetables helps to break down and excrete histamine circulating in the body. And as a potent antioxidant it protects against cellular oxidative damage that may result from excess inflammation. A supplement can be helpful.

Magnesium has a similar mechanism to vitamin C. And research has shown that a deficiency may actually increase histamine production. I find many people present with symptoms associated with low magnesium levels and this is another supplement I frequently recommend in my practice.

Add grated or ground ginger and turmeric to your meals as they help to inhibit the inflammatory compounds that cause the respiratory airways to swell.

Drink nettle tea. It is rich in vitamin C and can help lower histamine that is triggered in response to pollen.

Are there any awareness days or weeks during May 2024 which mean something to you and your business/expertise that you’d like to share?

The last part of May is Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week (22nd – 28th May). As someone who understands the impact of diet and lifestyle on health and conditions, I cannot stress enough just how important this Awareness Week is to raise awareness of just HOW to prevent Type 2 diabetes. At the end of the day T2D is driven by lifestyle and just how far removed we are as a Nation from eating real food.

Diabetes is the leading cause of death and disability Worldwide. The current statistics are concerning. We are seeing a sharp rise in rates among all age groups in the UK, currently at 10% of the population but with many cases not yet diagnosed.

I share information about managing blood sugar levels and so much more on my YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc5UiMfjdSIVCQV5JtMLDZg

May is the last month of Spring – how has Spring been for you and your business or organisation. What have been your highlights?
I am delighted to officially be launching my Speaker Business as the “Energise to Optimise“ speaker. I am on a mission to raise awareness of the power of nutrition and naturopathy to significantly transform people’s health and wellbeing.  I am often asked to deliver talks to groups and organisations and I aim to start reaching a much wider audience. I am a member of Fiona Scott’s Scott Media Speakers and my website is https://carolinepeyton.com

There were some quirky things in May which happen every year which may mean something to you. Feel free to pick one and tell us why it means something.
*May 5 – World Laughter Day.

This date may well have passed, but how fabulous to have a day to encourage people to laugh more. The world is far too serious and we need far more lightness to alleviate the stress and heaviness in our lives.
