Expert HR Solutions are sharing their plans for the end of 2023!
December is here! Christmas lights are up and businesses are starting to wind down to take a break over the festive season.
Today we’re talking to Chris Wilkinson, Moira Brown and Ben from Expert HR Solutions. They provide employment law advice and HR documentation and HR IT systems to companies of all sizes and sectors.
What does December mean for your business?
Christmas to New Year is usually quieter for us as many clients close their offices. We make use of the time by having a proper break ourselves, chilling, eating and having the odd drink or two. Ben of course loves the toys and presents as well as extra walks and treats.
Give us a flavour of your highlights of 2023 - tell us up to five positive things that have happened in the last year.
We were honoured to win the SME News Bets Outsourced HR Service Provider in England and Wales Award again in 2023 having first won it in 2022. We have continued to grow the business and are on track to exceed our year on year growth target. It also looks like we will exceed our turnover and Gross Profit targets.
Would you like to thank anyone who has been especially helpful to you throughout this year?
Jacqui Frampton for continuing to provide the best business networking group in The Boardroom Network. Clive Thorp from CT H&S for just being a great friend as well as working with us on several joint projects. So many members at TBN who have helped us both professionally and personally. Last but certainly not least Moira and Ben, my partners in Crime at Expert HR Solutions.
Have you done anything for charity or your community this year?
We have provided HR advice to a number of friends on a pro bono basis whose employers have not been treating them well. We donate every year to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and to my Dad’s old Regimental Charity. We supported Scotties Little Soldiers who took part in the Remembrance Parade for the first time this year. We are looking to support a Royal Naval Charity that has some resonance with Moira and I in 2024
December 3 was Small Business Saturday in the UK. Can you name up to three local independent ‘retail’ businesses you would recommend using?
I’d love to shout outBilly Andrews the Butchers in Verwood.
December 20 is the Festival of Winter Walks. Do you love any walks in your own community that you could recommend?
I really love the walk from our house to the Icelandic Horse Centre just outside Verwood. I vary the walk going either down the lanes or across the common.
What has been your proudest moment in 2023?
Our Wedding Anniversary is on December 23rd. Not telling you how many years, but lots!
If you could choose three words to sum up 2023 – what would they be – and why?
Challenging: Working out how to support Diplomatic Missions subject to the contradictory requirements of UK employment law and the Geneva Convention has set the grey cells whirling!
Exhilarating: We are about to enter our 12th year of trading which feels like a real milestone.
Releasing: Being able to take our first holiday in years felt like an enormous relief. It may not have been the best experience, but it was definitely a turning point. Looking forward to 2024.
