February Talk with Annabel Carington

It's February and Valentine’s Day approaches, this is known as the month of love – or historically a month of ‘new beginnings’. Today we're talking to Annabel Carington who is the founder of Carington Creative offering copywriting, brand voice development, and Instagram management. Based in Wiltshire, Annabel also heads up the Business Woman In Wiltshire meeting in Malmesbury.

What do you love about running your own business?
1.  That no two days are the same. That’s exciting!

2.  That I get to work with a wide range of people and am meeting new people all the time.

3.  That I have the privilege of working really closely with other business-owners. Getting to really know and understand their businesses and what makes them tick as business owners is fascinating to me.

What do you love about your business community? 
How supportive it is. We all genuinely want everyone to do really well. 

What do you love about your business which has changed over the last year? 
When I started my business at the end of July 2021 I didn’t expect to be working so closely with businesses, but this is the main way in which it has evolved so far and it’s an aspect of the business I’d like to develop further. I just love getting really involved so I can help them thrive.

What have been the main challenges you’ve had to overcome in the last year? 
Balance! I needed my business to be financially viable quite quickly, so I’ve ended up working silly hours sometimes and have only had one weekend off since I launched, so there hasn’t been much work-life balance so far. 

However, this is an exciting period, and working that hard has been worth it, so I’m now finding I’m able to give myself an evening or weekend here or there!
 

February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day – has anyone shown you, or your business, a random act of kindness over the last year? 
I never cease to be amazed by the ongoing kindness of other business owners. If you’re honest and straightforward and ask for what you want, it’s amazing how much people want to help you, and I’m very fortunate that others have been generous with their time, experience and connections. 

In the yearly cycle of your business – what do you expect during February? 
I started my business less than a year ago so I am excited to see what February brings!
