July Talk with Neil Moore

July is rushing by and the school holidays are now in full swing. So how are business owners feeling about this holiday period? Is it a time for busy, busy, busy or is it a time for planning, planning, planning? Today we're talking to Neil Moore, the founder of Moore Photographics, based in Marlborough, near Swindon. The business recently celebrated its 15th anniversary.

What are your plans for the summer in your business?
I have just launched an additional website to sell my photos as framed and non-framed prints. The website can be accessed through my website or directly at www.moore-photographics-print.com. These are fulfilled directly by a photo print company in Coventry.

What are your personal plans for this month? 
As many know, I have a passion for all things to do with railways. So this month I have already driven to Germany to visit the annual Gauge 1 model railway at Speyer.  This is held at a large museum which has many exhibits and includes space craft, boats, trains and a large WW2 collection.

Do you like sport – and if so do any sporting tournaments or events stand out for you this month?
I used to be an avid cyclist so I always watch the Tour de France. Wimbledon was earlier this month, but I’m afraid tennis is not something I have been fond of...it's not my thing.

Can you name one business you’d like to give a summer shout out to? 
For me that has been Sims Parker & Kidd.  A local CAA approved company that offers aerial photography and video. We are starting to work together on larger projects that require both our skill sets.  

As a consumer have you visited a local business, bought their products or services and thought ‘I must recommend them’?
I would love to shop locally but other than essential supermarket shopping I tend to go online.  However, I do enjoy using our local toy shop Ducklings in Hilliers Yard, Marlborough to buy gifts for my nephew and niece.  They are a traditional well used toy shop with plenty of toys for most age groups.

Have you got any events planned for the coming months which you’d like to mention?
As a member of the business referral group BusinessWise here in Swindon, I am looking forward to their fun and charitable events over the summer months. 

Are you raising money for charity or volunteering this month in any way?
I like to help a couple of local charities Men’s Shed and Swindon Night Shelter whenever I can.  

However, I do donate platelets every three weeks. Unfortunately Swindon does not have a donor centre so I need to do a 100 mile round trip each time to Gloucester.  Previously, I have travelled to Oxford or Southampton to donate which is the same distance from where I live.

Have you got any services or special offers you’d like to mention?
