Your Total Guide To Business

Lynne Jones

Lynne Jones, of Therapeutic Mentoring, is sharing what's happening for her this September!

September is almost here – what will this month bring? This month we’re talking to small business owners to find out what’s coming up for them!

Up today is Lynne Jones from Therapeutic Mentoring. Lynne is based in Barry, South Wales and works with organisations across Cardiff and the Vale.

Lynne offers bespoke training which understands individual one to one mentoring as a way of helping individuals understand how their personal life experiences may have affected their behaviours, how they manage stress, relationships and general daily experiences.

How was your summer as we go into autumn? Any highlights for you or your business?
It’s been a summer of reflection for my business and analysing data ready to move back into working in these areas. There has been a lot of interesting information collated from my work showing how impactful it has been.  The fact that men do want to talk and the patterns of childhood traumas that show up in all environments including childhood sexual abuse.

I have also been on a continued learning journey myself. Insights around soul contracts and life purpose and how my own story has and is influencing my life.

What’s coming up for your business in September?
The data I have produced has secured more work in these areas and I am feeling more aware of the things that make a difference and looking forward to delivering a new programme and using the data to make my work more effective.

Within the schools I will be working more closely with the Family Engagement team to support and advise their work – but also to deliver a programme to them, giving them the opportunity to explore their own neurobiology, blocks and worries with the view to a more authentic engagement with the families they work with.

It’s ‘back to school’ month or ‘start of university’ month – is this relevant to you personally or professionally?
A part of my work is with schools September is a time to prepare for the years delivery and also to feed into a school cluster approach to supporting parents in the most deprived area in the Vale.  For parents supporting children through transitions, mental health, neurodiversity this is a very stressful time.

Also, on a personal level I am re sitting my NLP qualifications to bring them up to date.  I am doing this as I have noticed that the simple techniques, I have used are having a big effect in helping people move forward through emotional blocks.  So, I aim to use this more effectively as a part of my work.  Very much feeling the going back to school effect and the need for a new pencil case!

It was also the Paralympics this month which ended on September 8. Did you watch, what do you think of this tournament? Were there any standout moments for you?
Only starting today – but will watch some of it and I am always more interested/curious about the personal stories than the sport side of it.  What drives them, how they find their purpose and what happens when sport is no longer an option.

September is also known as ‘organic’ month – when it comes to your business/organisation/personal life what do you do to be ‘more green’? If it’s in business, do you work with other brands to be more sustainable?
The work I deliver in schools will become more integrated into other services such as social services and parent support lines to make sure parents are accessing the groups. Looking at pooling budgets to enable more groups to be delivered – this is a long process in a local authority, but it has started!

World Gratitude Day takes place this month (Sept 21). What are you grateful for in your business?
I am grateful for my personal journey (especially the hard bits!) I have become so aware of how these events and what I have learnt through them allow me the insight to do my work authentically and how my continued self-awareness is taking me forward.

I am grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded to deliver something new in such different environments.

I am grateful for the home we have had for 10yrs and acknowledging as life changes so must we so my beautiful home it is on the market for us to move to a home ready for our next chapter. A real lesson in trusting the universe, taking inspired action and following my dreams.

What are your hopes for business for the rest of this year? Are you launching a new product, service, running an event or something else later in the year?
My hopes for the rest of this year in my business include:

  • To be awarded charity status and begin this work for parents – this will be launched once funding is secured.
  • To work with schools outside of the Vale – to train their staff and support their parents.
  • To work across all the WATES Construction sites in the UK

And finally, September 30 is International Podcast Day – do you listen to podcasts, or do you have one of your own? Can you share a tip? Which podcasts should others check out?
I love podcasts and have learnt a lot from the work of others.

Some of my favourites are:

  • Neuroplasticity nerds – a new podcast about neuroscience.
  • Diary of a CEO – cross themes and thought provoking
  • Full of Beans - eating disorders and themes around disordered eating

Top tip is – don’t always go for what is obvious, so many things we never even thought about will be found in podcasts – stretch your mind.

I have bought equipment to start one talking to ordinary people about their lives – but have no idea where to start right now … so it’s on a burner waiting for time to learn
