Shaun Holmes of West Country Waterpark has a fun August coming up!

August is upon us – it’s the month of holidays, summer fun and time off for many people. So how are small business owners coping with the month often known as ‘silly season’?

Shaun Holmes is Chief Fun Officer of West Country Water Park. The Aqua Park based in Bristol offers water sports and is a great place for leisure activities.

How is August looking in your business?
August is our busiest period as long as the weather holds out! It will be great to see people enjoying our new waterside banks and we’re also hoping to open our new top floor waterside restaurant this month which will be exciting.

What advice/tips would you give to small business owners trying to navigate the ‘holiday’ period? 
Make sure you stay positive and don’t be afraid to ask your customers for help.

August 20 is World Photo Day. Can you share a photo which means something to you this year so far? 
My favourite picture is “Mad Mike” and Shaun Holmes… His dream continued through my passions.

Did you know August 21 is World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself? 
Entrepreneurs are people wanting to offer the world something special. I love making seemingly difficult things easy. At the West Country Water Park we do introductions to windsurfing where we have a 100% success rate as we make it really easy.

A few days later on August 25 is Love My Accountant Day. Who is your accountant and why is this person so important for your business? 
Ooh I do love my accountant as she is my wife :-)

I’d love to shout out to The Brightwell Charity’s own Libby as she does not stop talking about us.

We are in a cost of living crisis at the moment?
Spend more time doing a smaller variety of things and really extract value from the time you have. Get rid of things you don't use.
