Simon Crisp of Green Machine Computers is sharing his exciting August coming up!

August is upon us – it’s the month of holidays, summer fun and time off for many people. So how are small business owners coping with the month often known as ‘silly season’?

Up today is Simon Crisp, the Founder of Green Machine Computers, which is a technology recycling facility based in Wiltshire. They work with corporations of any sizes to relieve them of their obsolete IT equipment; ensuring 100% data security in the process. In doing so, they help those businesses reduce their carbon footprint, free up space in their offices, and remain GDPR compliant, whilst giving them the satisfaction of knowing that their unwanted equipment will go on to benefit less fortunate people.

How is August looking in your business? 
August is normally a quiet month for us but we are really busy right now! It’s also our company's birthday this month and we are 12 years old which is exciting. We can’t wait to celebrate!

What are your personal plans for this month? 
I have been going to Dartmouth Regatta since I was a kid and will be heading down at the end of the month for a week of fun by the sea with the family! It will be good to get away and recharge the batteries!

What advice/tips would you give to small business owners trying to navigate the ‘holiday’ period? 
August can sometimes be a quiet month so my advice is  just make sure you have cover in key areas for when staff are off on their holidays and still try to hit your targets.

Did you know that July 29 to Aug 7 is Love Parks Week? Is this relevant to your business or organisation?
I didn’t know it was Love Parks Week. Unfortunately there aren’t many parks close to where we live. I do love to go to Savernake Forest. It’s one of my favourite places.

August 13 is International Left Handers Day. Are you left-handed and what issues, if any, have you ever had around being left handed?
I think I am ambidextrous because I write left-handed when I’m using pen and paper, but when I’m on the computer I use the mouse with my right hand.

Did you know August 21 is World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself? 
For me being an entrepreneur means being that person who can dream up lots of business ideas but who also has the know-how to make those business ideas a reality!

A few days later on August 25, it’s Love My Accountant Day. Who is your accountant and why is this person so important for your business? 
My accountant is Jon Shatford who is based in Hungerford. He looks after all our bookkeeping and accounting. He is a great support for our business. An accountant that can work with your business is a very valuable asset!

We are in a cost of living crisis at the moment? Is that impacting you at all in life or business? Do you have any money-saving tips you can share?
With bills going through the roof and the price of food soaring, business and personal life is tough for everyone at the moment. This isn’t really a tip but a thing we have been doing for our team is filling the kitchen cupboards with basic foods like pot noodles, bread, soups and breakfast cereal so if anyone is struggling on a personal level they can still come into work and have something to eat. Making sure the team is fed, leaves for a happier workforce!
