ON-THE-BUZZER MATCH REPORT: Swindon Wildcats 4-2 Guildford Flames

The Swindon Wildcats ended 2016 in style with a 4-2 win over the Guildford Flames on New Years Eve thanks to goals from Jan Kostal, Tomasz Malasinski, Phil Hill and Stevie Whitfield.

It secured back-to-back wins for the Wildcats over the festive period, following a 3-1 win over Basingstoke on December 27.

Jan Kostal gave Swindon the lead at 7:40 with his bundled finish from close range after assists from Phil Hill and Max Birbraer.

Swindon's advantage was doubled in period two when Tomasz Malasinski whacked home a powerful, low effort at 21:15 with the assist this time coming from Jonas Hoog.

Guildford kept the pressure up via Dave Savage's unassisted effort at 31:24 but that did not deter the rampant Wildcats, as they dominated the third and final period.

The Wildcats could not start period three any better, as just 19 seconds into the final lot of 20 minutes, Phil Hill - who joined from Telford earlier on this year, scored his first goal at the Link Centre for his newest club with a fine effort that was similar to Malasinski's goal previously in the contest.

Stevie Whitfield made the score safe for Swindon soon after, at 43:40, with his shot that flew into the top corner - Hoog and Malasinski with the assists this time.

Marek Maslonka hit a late, late consolation eight seconds from time, but the win was already assured by Swindon.

Swindon are back in action tomorrow, on New Years Day, as they aim to start 2017 with a win at the Bracknell Bees, and their next home match is against the Hull Pirates on January 7 (17:45 face-off).
