ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon 1-1 MK Dons

Jon Obika's 90th-minute goal saved a point for Town at home to the MK Dons on Saturday after Kieran Agard's penalty had given the away side the lead.

Obika rescued a draw for a Swindon side that was largely outplayed at SN1 when he raced clear down the right-hand side and slotted into the bottom corner to keep Swindon's hopes of escaping the drop to League Two alive.

A larger-than-normal County Ground crowd went into the match upbeat and optimistic, but found themselves in similar territory when Kieran Agard netted a 43rd-minute penalty.

The ex-Bristol Rovers striker kept his cool in hot conditions and dispatched the spot-kick low to Lawrence Vigouroux's right-hand side, despite the Chilean goalkeeper guessing the right way to dive.

Despite the first half not containing many chances of note, the franchised Dons had two excellent chances to score prior to the penalty, but Vigouroux denied them superbly on both occasions.

First, Agard was put clean through on goal and looked nailed-on to score, and would have done, had it done been for a brilliant Vigouroux save where the Chilean used his legs to keep the match level.

Ben Reeves had an equally as good an opening later on after being played in by Stuart O'Keefe, but again Vigoroux got down low to deny the midfielder.

Other than that, MK were limited to shots from range - mostly from O'Keefe and Reeves, with the former hitting the outside of the post with one effort as well as having another one blocked by Branco, while Reeves regularly saw shots fly over the bar.

Swindon were trying to find the formula to trouble Lee Nicholls in the Milton Keynes goal but were unable to work a way through a stubborn defence.

That was until early on in the second half when, following an opposition corner, Johnny Goddard raced away for Swindon towards Nicholls but somehow, despite seemingly having all the time in the world, his shot was straight at the keeper and diverted behind for a corner.

Ed Upson, who was part of the Yoevil side that earned promotion to the Championship, almost doubled the lead for MK on two occasions from range.

In the first instance, the midfielder rifled a half-volley just wide of the post and not long after he hit the top of the crossbar with an attempt from the edge of the area.

Swindon's two best chances in the second half both came the way of striker Jon Obika.

First, he headed a deep cross off the outside of the post and wide, and then with around 15 minutes left he tried an ambitious overhead kick following a corner but that went just over.

The Robins could have leaped out of the drop zone with a win, but this result means they will have to keep pushing in their last four games of the season, starting at home to AFC Wimbledon on Friday.
