Set to be complete by spring 2025, the store will expand into the currently vacant unit beside it, increasing the store’s size to just under 60,000 square feet, a 40% rise. The expansion will include a fresh market-style food hall, and new sections for clothing, home, and beauty products.
The North Swindon-located M&S submitted planning applications for modifications at the rear of the building. It includes a new enclosed area for the building’s light and heating systems and updates to a trolley bay.
The aim of this refurbishment is to better the services available to customers and Construction will be phased to ensure the store remains open throughout the process.
The entrance lobby of the additional unit will be demolished and replaced with cladding to match the existing store, and new signs will be installed on the vacant building.
The report granting permission noted that the expansion aligns well with the character of the Orbital Shopping Park and the appearance of the surrounding area.
Swindon also has an M&S Food Hall at Mannington Retail Park and a clothing outlet at the Designer Outlet in Rodbourne.
